UK plans to impose carbon levy in 2027 to level carbon pricing
December 26, 2023
The UK government has proposed implementing a carbon levy on certain carbon-
intensive products, including iron, steel, aluminum, ceramics, and cement, starting in
2027. This measure aims to safeguard domestic industries from the effects of inexpensive
imports originating from countries with less stringent climate policies. The goal is to
mitigate the risk of carbon leakage and establish equitable conditions in carbon pricing.
