Jindal Stainless Foundation working to augment earnings from crops
April 4, 2021
Augmenting the income of farmers has been chief on the sustainability agenda of Jindal Stainless for a long time. In one such intervention, a much needed problem was identified and successfully resolved.
Brinjal is among the most preferred crops in the Jajpur region of Odisha. However, during late Rabi and starting of Zaid season, a rise in fungal and bacterial infestations was observed which resulted in poor yield. In order to solve this problem for farmers, the Jindal Stainless Foundation, along with Gram Unnati Foundation and its institutional partners, organized a demonstration with requisite trainings on pest control and best practices. Doorstep delivery of high quality, scientifically recommended plant protection materials at affordable prices was ensured for farmers.
This timely intervention has led to the reduction of pest infestation and cost of cultivation, and has improved productivity. The support provided enabled farmers to enhance their average yield from just 20-22 MT/acre to 35 MT/acre now.
