EU manufacturers increasingly rely on stainless steel imports
January 29, 2025

In 2024, Europe experienced a notable increase in stainless steel imports, including raw materials and semi-finished products, highlighting a growing dependence on external suppliers to satisfy demand.
European stainless steel producers imported unprecedented volumes of slabs and nickel pig iron, with nickel pig iron imports skyrocketing by nearly 60,000%, underscoring their heavy reliance on imports.
Additionally, Taiwan’s flat-rolled stainless steel exports have exceeded the EU’s quotas for the first quarter of 2025, raising concerns about potential higher duties and compliance challenges.
