Jindal stainless supplies grades like 409L, 432, 436L, 439, 441, 444, 430J1L for exhaust application of 2-wheelers, passenger cars, and commercial vehicles to major auto OEMs.
Over the years, the usage of stainless steel has immensely increased in the automotive industry, especially in the parts segment such as exhaust and emission control systems. Stainless steel can withstand high temperatures, is durable and corrosion-resistant, and has a longer life. All these characteristics make it the most suitable for the vehicle exhaust system. Depending on the temperature range, different grades of stainless steel are used at different temperature zones of the exhaust assembly.
All in all, effective exhaust systems produced from stainless steel reduce emission levels, increase fuel economy, and possess properties such as high-temperature oxidation resistance, external salt corrosion resistance, and internal acid/base corrosion resistance.
The exhaust system is a critical part of any vehicle’s emission system. It collects the exhaust gases from the cylinders, removes harmful substances, reduces noise levels, and discharges the purified exhaust gases from an appropriate place in the vehicle, away from its occupants.
In 1963, the first exhaust purification device, the crank case-forced ventilation control valve, was used in passenger cars. It guided the leaking exhaust gas of the crankcase into the intake manifold and finally burned off the exhaust gases to avoid their escaping into the atmosphere. A lot of measures were taken by the automakers to reduce the compression ratio, delaying ignition timing, increasing idle speed, preheating intake, and pumping air into the exhaust manifold for more complete combustion. It was then in the mid-1990s that stainless steel replaced carbon and low-alloy steel in response to market demand for extended warranties, meeting emission standards, and life-cycle cost.
Jindal Stainless has been in the stainless steel industry for more than 50 years and is always known for its quality work. It is India’s largest manufacturer of stainless steel in 200, 300, 400, and duplex grade stainless steel products. The company has witnessed and contributed to the growth of the automotive industry in India, especially in vehicular exhausts, fuel tanks, and disc brakes.
