Jindal Stainless develops Gr 304 & 441 Hairline Finish for the elevator segment

The hairline finish, common in grades 304 & 441, is a unidirectional brushed finish consisting of continuous straight fine lines. This special design is used widely in lifts & elevators, escalators, building facades, and automotive and architecture sectors.

We are able to achieve this unique finish through production on a strip grinding line by the abrasive action of a rotary grinding head with a controlled drive speed w.r.t. the strip metal surface. Depending on the grade of the base material, a specific combination of grit sizes is decided to obtain a uniform texture on the surface.  

Jindal Stainless, Jajpur, boasts of a state-of-the-art grinding and polishing line which is capable of manufacturing multiple special finishes to cater to the ever-increasing demand in lifts & elevators, and metro & construction segments. The grinding line is useful in the following ways:

1. Wet grinding mechanism ensures uniform grinding across and along the length of the coil  

2. Combination of 4 grinding headers imparts uniformity of texture

3. Degreasing and strip drying section removes any residues on the surface

4. The oil-resistant, heavy-duty contact rolls and squeeze rolls ensure proper belt-to–surface contact during the grinding process which facilitates the maintenance of proper flatness of the surface, thereby resulting in uniform grinding.
